Do shrink sleeves work on all container shapes?
Shrink sleeves work on almost any container shape, including round, oval, square, and contoured bottles, cans, jars, and tubes, because the film shrinks to conform to the surface rather than being cut to a fixed flat shape. This is their main advantage over self-adhesive labels on complex containers.
Because the film shrinks around the container after application, it follows concave and convex curves, waisted or hourglass profiles, and shoulder tapers that would cause a flat self-adhesive label to wrinkle or require multiple panels. This makes shrink sleeves especially suited to beverage bottles with sculpted shapes, jars with narrowing necks, and multi-pack bundles.
The main design consideration is shrink ratio: very deep or sharp indentations, sudden diameter changes, or handles can cause the film to bridge, pucker, or thin unevenly if the sleeve is not engineered correctly for that geometry. A competent sleeve manufacturer accounts for this during artwork and film selection, sometimes adjusting shrink percentage across different zones of the design so graphics remain undistorted after shrinking. Extremely flat or perfectly cylindrical containers are the easiest to sleeve; complex geometries are achievable but require more careful pre-shrink artwork correction and sample validation before a full production run.
