How long does custom label printing usually take?

Custom label printing timelines vary depending on artwork readiness, printing method, finishing requirements, and current production schedules, so there is no single standard duration; brands should confirm expected turnaround directly with the manufacturer once the exact specification and quantity are finalised.

The overall timeline includes several stages that each add time: artwork finalisation and proofing, which can take longer for complex designs or when multiple rounds of revision are needed; plate-making for flexographic printing, an additional step not required for digital printing; the print run itself, where run length depends on quantity and press speed; and any finishing steps such as die-cutting, lamination, or foil stamping, which typically run as separate passes after base printing. Digital printing generally offers faster turnaround than flexographic for the same order, since it skips the plate-making stage entirely, which is one reason digital is often preferred for time-sensitive short runs or new product launches with a tight deadline.

A manufacturer’s current production schedule and order backlog also affect when a specific job can be started and completed, independent of how long the physical production process itself takes. Because all of these variables are specific to the exact label specification and the manufacturer’s current workload, brands with a fixed launch date should share their target timeline with the manufacturer as early as possible, ideally before artwork is even finalised, so production scheduling and any necessary expediting can be planned around a realistic, confirmed timeline rather than an assumed standard duration.
