What information does a label manufacturer need to provide an accurate quotation?
An accurate label quotation generally requires the label’s exact dimensions and shape, the face material and adhesive type needed, the number of print colours and any specialty finishing, the container it will be applied to, and the target order quantity, since each of these variables independently affects price.
Dimensions and shape determine material usage and whether a standard or custom die is needed for cutting, so even an approximate size range is more useful to a manufacturer than no size information at all, though exact final dimensions are needed for a firm quote. Material and adhesive requirements should reflect the container surface, since a plastic container needing a low-surface-energy adhesive, or a refrigerated product needing a cold-temperature adhesive, will price differently from a standard glass-bottle application using a general-purpose adhesive.
The number of colours and any specialty finishing, such as foil stamping, embossing, or lamination, should be specified as precisely as possible, since these are among the most significant cost drivers, particularly for flexographic printing where colour count affects the number of plates required. Sharing the intended container material and application environment, such as whether the product will face refrigeration, outdoor storage, or chemical exposure, helps the manufacturer recommend and price an appropriately durable specification rather than a generic default. Finally, the target order quantity, or a realistic range if the exact figure is not yet fixed, is essential, since quotations are typically tiered by volume given how significantly quantity affects per-unit cost.
