How do I add my first article?

Every entry in this knowledge base is one question and one answer. Phrase the title the way a visitor would ask it — that is what search engines match against, and it is what the person scanning the category list is looking for.

Write the title as a question

“How do I reset my password?” works. “Password reset procedure” does not. The first matches what somebody types; the second matches what an internal document is called.

When a title reads as a question, the plugin also adds FAQ markup to the page automatically, which is what lets the answer appear directly in search results.

Use H2 headings for sections

The table of contents in the sidebar builds itself from the H2 headings in your content. Two or more headings and it appears; fewer and it stays hidden, because a contents list for a single section is just noise.

Anchor links are generated for each heading, so you can link people straight to the relevant part of a long answer.

Fill in the excerpt

The excerpt shows underneath the title in category listings and in the structured data description. Leaving it blank is the single most common way to end up with a category page that is harder to scan than it needs to be.

Assign a category

An article without a category will not appear on the hub page. Categories also drive the “related articles” block at the foot of each answer, so an uncategorised article gets no related links either.
