Chemical products can be aggressive toward standard label materials, so film substrates specifically engineered for solvent and chemical resistance, paired with a chemical-resistant adhesive, are generally necessary rather than optional for products where the label may come into direct contact with spilled or splashed product, or where the container itself is stored near other chemicals that could contact the label surface. Standard paper labels and general-purpose adhesives are typically unsuitable for this category given their vulnerability to degradation on chemical contact.
Hazard communication content is equally critical, since chemical labelling typically needs to convey safety information clearly and in compliance with applicable hazard communication frameworks, which for internationally traded chemicals often means alignment with Globally Harmonized System conventions for hazard pictograms and signal words, alongside any India-specific regulatory requirements relevant to the chemical’s classification. Because industrial chemical containers frequently face outdoor storage, temperature extremes, and rough handling during transport, UV resistance and physical durability matter alongside chemical resistance specifically. Given the safety stakes involved, chemical packaging decisions should always be made in coordination with the brand’s safety and regulatory compliance function, confirming the specific requirements applicable to the chemical’s classification and target market.
