What labels work best for cold-chain and frozen food packaging?
Cold-chain and frozen food packaging generally requires moisture-resistant film labels or specially engineered paper constructions paired with adhesives designed to perform at low temperatures. The correct choice depends on whether the label is applied before chilling, onto an already cold container, or onto a frozen surface.
Condensation is a major consideration because moisture can affect both the face material and adhesive. Film substrates generally provide stronger resistance to water than standard paper, while freezer-grade adhesives are designed to maintain bonding under low-temperature storage conditions.
The actual application should be tested through the full temperature cycle, including label application, chilling or freezing, transport, storage, thawing where applicable, and consumer handling. A label that works at room temperature may behave very differently once exposed to condensation and sub-zero storage.
