Which labels are best suited for apparel and fashion tags?

Industry-Specific Packaging Guides 1 min read Updated October 3, 2026

Apparel packaging commonly uses a combination of hang tags, care labels, size labels, brand labels, and barcode or price labels rather than one universal label format. The correct choice depends on whether the label is intended for branding, garment care, identification, inventory management, or retail scanning.

Premium hang tags can use coated, textured, kraft, recycled, or specialty boards with finishing such as foil, embossing, spot UV, custom die-cutting, eyelets, and strings. Care labels require a different construction because the information must remain readable through the garment’s expected washing and wearing conditions.

Retail labels can also incorporate variable information such as sizes, prices, barcodes, QR codes, or SKU data. Apparel brands should therefore treat branding, garment care, and retail identification as separate functional requirements when selecting labels and tags.
